FAQ

Why Copenhagen Camp?

We want to bring together Danish and international YMCA members to experience Copenhagen – in a fun, and relaxing atmosphere.

Think of the camp as a mix between a youth hostel and a YMCA summer camp – set in the city of Copenhagen. A space where its easy meet new friends from around the world.

When?

August 12-18, 2024
YMCA Amager, Copenhagen, Denmark

Who can participate?

Danish and international members of YMCA aged 18+. The majority will probably be in their 20s, but this is not a limitation. Participants can check in a few days – or stay the whole week.

We are limited to 20 beds each night.

Where will we sleep?

Our facilities are basic. We have stackable IKEA beds and mattresses. Some will sleep in our great hall (see one of the photos below) and others in smaller rooms. We have a few showers in the basement and great common areas – perfect for meeting people.

Copenhagen’ers: You can sleep at YMCA Amager – or at home.

What can we expect from the program?

Each day there will be activities to join. We will focus on shared experiences – morning bathing in the ocean, building projects in the house, excursions, museum visits, communal singing etc.

Some entrance fees and transportation will be covered – and we will try to keep most of the program free or budget friendly.

Planned activities will be optional to join – and we can split into smaller groups. If any of you would rather go fishing or play basketball, this will be possible.

We will share a program draft in Google Sheets so everyone can contribute with ideas and activities.

Ahm… I don’t know anyone. Can I join alone?

Yes! This is a the perfect experience for solo YMCA travelers.

Can I bring my friends?

Yes, of course. Bring a few friends.

However, keep in mind that idea is to meet new people, so larger groups is not ideal. instead you could stay at YMCA Interpoint – a youth hostel run by our good friends at YMCA Vesterbro. Also, there are great commercial hostels in Copenhagen: Generator, Steel House, Globalhagen, Urban House, CPH Downtown, Danhostel etc.

Who are the hosts?

We are all YMCA volunteers. Most of us live in Copenhagen.

What is the fee?

Participant fee is 20 € night / 70 € all week.
Price includes accommodation, breakfast and dinner.

Please send us an email to camp@ymcaamager.dk if you have any questions regarding this.

How do I book a bed?

Use the sign-up form below to tell us you are interested – even if you are not 100% sure yet. Within a few days, we will reply with more information – and plans for the program.

Can I stay longer in Copenhagen?

Yes. YMCA Amager is only open during the camp – but as mentioned above, there are many great hostels in Copenhagen.

You can also become a volunteer at YMCA Interpoint – a hostel run by YMCA Vesterbro in Copenhagen. Here you could stay and volunteer before or after Copenhagen Camp.
